NOREEN HUXLEY

College and Career Planning Advisor

My journey as a college and career planning advisor started with my first child. The race to college began, and the anxiety, the fear, and the work that this journey asked of my child was overwhelming to both of us. Researching colleges for my child turned into guidance, and passion, and I found that my interest in easing my child’s admissions stress was more than just about helping my own child.

I was genuinely interested in this complex world of college admissions and I discovered I connect at a deep level with young adults. I work to gain their trust and help them look inward so they can present their most authentic selves to the colleges. I see greatness in all young adults and I work well with highly anxious students and creative students. Fueled with self knowledge and supported through the college admission process young adults can have a successful and rewarding college application experience.

I myself had a challenging college admissions experience; I received my B.S. in Industrial Design at Art Center College of Design. As one of the top industrial design programs in the world, I competed heavily to gain entrance to the program and was one of the first 18-year-old’s to be accepted. Twenty five years later I went back to school upon finding my passion for college counseling at UC Berkeley Extension. I am actively involved with multiple professional organizations that focus on college counseling. This means I am constantly refreshing my knowledge, visiting colleges, and attending college admission seminars to stay current with the most up to date information. My education prepared me to look at the world from many angles, and find solutions to complex problems, which sets me up well to guide students who are about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

As a neurodivergent adult and a parent of transgender children I am uniquely qualified to connect and empathize with a wide variety of students.
